Signal - Communication Sound Effects
Product Overview
SIGNAL - COMMUNICATION SOUND EFFECTS is a sound library dedicated to electronic signals and radio transmissions, designed for video games, films, TV shows, documentaries, and animation. Ready to use, these sounds make it easy to create signals and transmissions ranging from realistic radio communications to sci-fi transmissions. What’s Inside
SIGNAL - COMMUNICATION SOUND EFFECTS features 236 designed sounds centered on electronic signals and radio transmissions. The collection includes both short, isolated elements and longer, evolving sequences. Frequency and tone vary from sound to sound, with some remaining stable while others become noisier, more garbled, or interrupted. All sounds are named according to their content and organized for easy browsing.
The collection includes: beep • beep morse code • beep morse code elements • beep telemetry • modulation long signal tuning • modulation short signal tuning • noise crackle • noise interference • noise interruption • noise pop • noise radio signal • noise radio signal tonal • sonar scanning • walkie talkie beep • walkie talkie noise.
Creative Possibilities
SIGNAL - COMMUNICATION SOUND EFFECTS can be used to build transmissions through their different stages, from searching for a frequency and establishing a connection to interference, signal dropout, or complete interruption. The sounds can also provide interface feedback, confirm a detection, indicate a change in status, or signal the opening of a radio channel.
You can also create tactical military communications, police radio exchanges, as well as space or sci-fi transmissions. By repurposing static, dropouts, and hums, you can create glitches or simulate poor connections, unstable circuits, and the progressive failure of an electronic device.
Shaping the Sound
The 24-bit / 44.1 kHz WAV files can be integrated directly into your productions or processed further for more advanced sound design. Turn a clean transmission into a distorted or degraded version, transform a modulation into an electronic texture, or layer multiple elements to create a denser, more complex signal.
Creative Process
SIGNAL - COMMUNICATION SOUND EFFECTS combines sounds generated with an Access Virus C, Yamaha DX200, and Waldorf Blofeld with recordings of vintage tube radios, transistor radios, walkie-talkies, and a wide range of other electronic devices.
For the microphone recordings, we used a RØDE NT4 and an Audio-Technica AT897 connected to a Sound Devices 702T. Some radios were recorded through their own speakers, while others were captured directly from their line outputs. We also recorded walkie-talkie squelch, cable interference, as well as mechanical buttons and selectors from various devices.
The recordings were then chopped, cleaned, deconstructed, and reassembled. Depending on the sound, we used modulation, saturation, distortion, or bitcrushing. After processing, the resulting elements were layered to create ready-to-use sounds.
